STI (Deutschland) GmbH tests its first electric truck in real transport operations

A practical step within ongoing efforts towards more sustainable transport

Sustainable transport becomes real when ideas are applied in daily operations. As part of its ongoing efforts to reduce emissions, STI (Deutschland) GmbH has taken delivery of its first fully electric truck from Scania.

The vehicle has been introduced as part of the HoLa project, a German government supported initiative focused on enabling electric long distance transport.

Over the next 12 to 18 months, the truck will be part of the fleet and tested in daily operations.

This is one of several steps the company is taking towards more sustainable transport across its European operations. In terms of scale, one vehicle will not change overall transport volumes. Its value lies in understanding how electric transport works in practice.

What can be learned from this test

Introducing an electric truck raises practical questions. Range, charging times and route planning all influence how it can be used.

The vehicle will be integrated into existing transport operations to assess how it performs under real conditions. This includes how it fits into routes, how charging can be planned and how reliably it can support daily operations.

A key focus is how charging can be aligned with driver break times and how this impacts overall transport planning.

The role of the HoLa project

HoLa stands for High Performance Charging for Long Haul Trucking and is supported by the German government.

The project focuses on developing and testing high performance charging infrastructure for electric trucks along major transport routes. It connects charging infrastructure with real transport operations to understand how long distance electric transport can work in practice.

The aim is to gather operational experience and support the future expansion of charging infrastructure.

Why this matters for transport in Europe

For heavy duty transport, electrification depends on both vehicles and infrastructure. Without reliable charging, large scale use is not possible.

This is why practical testing is important. Even a single vehicle can provide insights into performance, infrastructure needs and operational planning, helping to guide future decisions.

A practical step forward

For STI (Deutschland) GmbH, this step is about gaining experience and understanding how electric trucks fit into daily operations and where they can bring real value.
It is part of a broader approach that includes multiple initiatives aimed at reducing emissions across operations.
The insights gained will determine whether and how electric trucks will be further integrated into operations and guide future investment decisions.
